Importantly, it can monitor the core frequency and memory frequency, CPU temperature, CPU load, and the fan speed. It can gather information on memory size, timing, and type, and module specification. Speccy has reported the correct I/O bus clock rate. The CPU-Z is a free software designed to profile and monitor systems RAM, CPU, motherboard chipsets, and other hardware components. I have sent an email to Sony asking them to correct the product specs posted on their website. The fastest DDR3 type memory speed as of the date of this comment is DDR3-1600 running at max 800 MHz. It is misleading because no DD3 type memory runs at a maximum of 1333 MHz. Sony needs to correct their website specs for this product. The "1333" speed reference pertains to MT/s (data rate) not MHz (I/O bus clock). The specs posted to the Sony website are incorrect in that it states the Type/Speed is DDR3/1333MHz. The memory type installed in this model is DDR3-1333 which runs at a maximum I/O bus clock speed of 667 MHz and a maximum data rate of 1333 MT/s. Being part of Piriform’s software bundle, together with CCleaner and other cool stuff, Speccy does a really good job with monitoring the loads and temps of your GPU/CPU. Wikipedia notes, "Sometimes, a vendor may misleadingly advertise the I/O clock rate by labeling the MT/s as MHz." This is exactly what Sony has done for this product's specs on their website for their new model #VPCF112FX. Speccy, also known as corporate freeware, is a very basic CPU temp monitor, and yeah, it’s absolutely free of charge, with a premium (as in paid) version available. Please note further research on Wikipedia reveals the following helpful information. Thank you so much! Gonna give this a go.I really appreciate your help. But that obviously will give a boost as well. but of course these days it's really hard to find a GPU at MSRP. The GPU is much easier on the compatibility front, just about any modern card will work just fine (provided it physically fits in the case, but from the pic it looks like you've got room). This of course ruins the xmas surprise tho Worst case/brute force option is to just get 16 or 32GB of DDR4 GSkill or Corsair RAM and just see if it works in his system. One thing you can try is if he can run something like hwinfo, speccy, or CPU-Z as for more info on the computer. (for hwinfo either click Motherboard on the main page or, on the Sensor page, there will be a line that says "Motherboard" next to a thermometer icon, what's directly above that? or just post screencaps of both windows). I think we'd just need to know the motherboard model/name/number to know if any given RAM is compatible (please someone correct me if i'm wrong)

Using your image i found this which unfortunately doesn't give a whole parts list.įrom the looks of it the first thing that jumps out is the RAM, 8GB is kind of low.īut finding compatible ram sticks can be a bit tricky.
